Polartec® Thermal FR® was created to provide comfortable insulation with the enhanced safety capability to resist intense sources of heat. By designing inherent flame resistance into our fleece technologies we developed greater insulating options for solving the safety requirements. These lightweight thermoregulation abilities allow extensive versatility for use in modern designs. To invent a superior insulating technology we had to rethink the way outerwear fabrics were being made. Current textile processes were neglecting the overall problems faced from the elements and designing materials with limited benefits. We knew we had to create a single fabric with greater versatility. By developing a new process to knitting polyester yarns we could raise up piled fibers and precisely shear them into sheets of soft fabric. This now famously fuzzy surface was inherently more lightweight, breathable, and faster drying than anything in use. Polartec® Thermal FR® has a lofted fiber structure that creates thermal air pockets to prevent convective heat loss and regulate core warmth. This breakthrough design construction provides the highest warmth per weight ratio for insulating materials while still remaining highly weather resistant and durable. A soft double-sided face gives fleece the versatility to integrate with layered systems, whether worn directly against the skin or on top of other fabrics. The hydrophobic properties of Polartec® Thermal FR® fleece further enhance the ability to repel water, resist saturation and dry quickly. Polartec® Power Grid™ FR with protection against flame threats was created to push the performance of our base fabric technologies even further. By developing a patented grid design structure we discovered a new way to reduce fabric weight while increasing warmth and compressibility in the process. This grid construction enhances both wicking efficiency and breathability by generating channels of targeted touch points that absorb and diffuse moisture vapor for faster evaporation.The ability to maximize base efficiency through enhanced performance benefits is central to the design of Polartec® Power Grid™ FR fabric. By constructing a symmetrical grid pattern we were able to not only increase thermal warmth and mechanical wicking capabilities, but actually reduce the overall fabric mass and weight. The patented bi-component construction utilizes a different length of yarn on each side of the fabric to optimize wicking action and evaporation. This dual surface approach allows moisture to be continuously pulled from your skin and diffused to the outside. The exterior layer then spreads the moisture out to a wider surface area for faster evaporation. Open air channels surrounding each individual segment of grid allow Polartec® Power Grid™ FR to easily release all excess body heat as it builds during activity. These breathable air channels also serve to free up space for greater compression capabilities when needing to pack or store materials with limited room. Providing maximum warmth from minimal weight enables your body to reduce its overall exertion during movement. This composite engineering approach wicks faster than traditional base fabric materials and avoids using chemical wicking agents that fade away with time.
